AGR notes with some considerable disappointment yet another NGO report that is littered with considerable factual errors, many of which are libelous and which shows a pathetic and total lack of understanding of regional issues and an appalling misunderstanding of the gold trade and global business.

AGR Chief Executive Officer, Alain Goetz stated ‘Today we finally see yet another pathetic attempt to destroy the much-needed reforms and changes needed in the African gold industry. These allegedly well-intentioned investigators and policy makers have ensured that smuggling and illicit gold trade will survive by taking clearly defamatory and false information from business rivals, the gold smugglers whom they are trying to stop and former business associates who were removed from AGR due to misconduct’. He added: ‘when I first started reading this report I thought it must be Mr. George Clooney’s latest movie script. It is a work of fiction. As a result, we will be taking all necessary legal action worldwide against the researchers, investigators, funders, board of the Sentry, printers and anyone who knowingly contributed false and defamatory information to the production of this sad and deeply erroneous report. Lives are being put at risk with this type of NGO report. Livelihoods are being ruined. The damage that they are doing is incalculable. These NGOs need to realize that they are a dangerous entity that make no positive contribution to Africa’s wellbeing. It is time they had a good hard look at what they do and the significant chaos they cause.

We would urge considerable caution to anyone who wishes to repeat these factual errors, many of which have been covered in previous NGO reports and found to be without substance.
